Nintendo Sponsoring Smash Bros. Tournament

Officially smashing.

The video game tournament Apex 2015 has announced Nintendo is sponsoring the Super Smash Bros portion of the event.

Team Apex tweeted word of Nintendo's involvement today, which Nintendo promptly confirmed with a retweet.

Apex 2015 will take place January 30 to February 1 in Secaucus, New Jersey. Its slate of tournaments include all four console Smash Bros games, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and traditional fighting games like Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Killer Instinct. More information on the event and registration is available on the official site.

Series director Masahiro Sakurai has already stated that Super Smash Bros for Wii U won't receive balance patches, so its current state will be the one for the tournament scene for years to come. IGN's review called it great, crediting its wealth of modes and unlockable items, and replay value.
