Japan's Kan Keeps Lead Over Ozawa In Latest Poll--Kyodo

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--Prime Minister Naoto Kan continued to enjoy support from a majority of Japanese as the preferred head of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan ahead of Tuesday's leadership election against power-broker Ichiro Ozawa, a Kyodo News survey showed Saturday.

While only DPJ members can vote in the election, the poll results add to the view that any DPJ members casting their vote for Ozawa could risk alienating their supporters.

The telephone survey conducted Thursday and Friday showed 67.3% of those polled backed Kan to 22.8% for Ozawa, a former DPJ secretary general, compared with the 69.9% for Kan ...
