The Wall

The last great “concept album,” The Wall — built around a disillusioned rock star with a troubled past — spread its bile over four sides of vinyl. Waters’ diatribe picks an assortment of targets: World War II, the death of his father, the British education system, groupies, drugs, idiot rock stars. For all its pomp and lofty ambition, there’s a streak of almost punk-rock venom within, not to mention some of the band’s best humping, thumping heavy rock.

STANDOUT TRACKS: “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2),” “Comfortably Numb”
