Godzilla Director Apologises For Cutting Akira Takarada Cameo

Japanese star was set to appear

Akira Takarada shot a cameo for the new Godzilla movie, it has been confirmed - but it ended up on the cutting room floor.

Director Gareth Edwards has said making the decision to delete his scene was the most difficult part of the process, seeing as he was in the original movies starring the iconic beast.

"From an emotional point of view, in terms of my love of Godzilla, the hardest thing was Akira Takarada. He was in the original films and did a cameo for us on Day 1," Business Insider quotes him as saying.

Takarada, now 80, starred in 1954's first Godzilla movie, later appearing in Mothra Vs Gozilla, Invasion Of Astro-Monster, Godzilla Vs The Sea Monster and Godzilla: Final Was.

Edwards described him as "a real gentleman" about the cut, adding that it was "one of those horrible things about the process".

Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elisabeth Olsen and Sally Hawkins star in the new film.
