A new set of female singing superstars were inducted recently into VH-1 Divas namely Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Adele.

The program was held at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Gilman Opera House in New York City last Sept. 17.

Paula Abdul hosted and opened the show with a medley of her hits complete with choreographed routine, showing her in good form post-“American Idol.”

She, however, got the most attention when she poked fun at her “Idol” replacement, Ellen DeGeneres.

“Abdul proved a good sport, gamely referencing her ‘Idol’ ouster by appearing midway through the show in a cropped blonde wig and oversized suit, playfully miming Ellen DeGeneres’ gait and mannerisms before collapsing in an oversized chair and announcing, ‘What, can’t a girl try out her new job?’” reported Rolling Stone Magazine.

Note that apart from Cyrus and Adele, the latest VH-1 divas were from talent searches “American Idol,” and “The X-Factor.”

In the show, the young divas were paired with the likes of Cyndi Lauper who sang “True Colors” with Leona Lewis; Martina McBride who brought out Jordin Sparks’ country side on “Broken Wing”; India.Arie singing with Adele; Stevie Wonder who sang “All In Love Is Fair” with Jennifer Hudson; Sheryl Crow who sang her hit “If It Makes You Happy” with Miley Cyrus; and Melissa Etheridge who sang her own “Bring Me Some Water” with Kelly Clarkson.

VH-1 Divas was launched in 1998 as a concert to support its “Save The Music Foundation,” which is aimed to save the music program in the U.S. public school curriculum. The last time it held a show was five years ago.
