Virtual Archival Exhibits from Around British Columbia

A number of archives and other institutions have initiated projects to create "on-line exhibits", mainly using audio-visual materials from their holdings. Photographs, film and video, and audio recordings are copied to digital format and mounted on Web sites in thematic displays.

British Columbia Archives Time Machine

The British Columbia Archives Time Machine is an educational web site providing accessibility to British Columbia historical documents, images, and other multimedia information in a format designed for school-age children.

Photographs and art-work from the archives' holdings. Exhibits include: Victoria, 1889 ; Selected Works of Emily Carr ; Hannah and Richard Maynard ; Governors/Premiers of British Columbia ; Selected Panoramic Views ; Moving Image Collection

City of Richmond Archives -- Virtual Exhibits

Virtual exhibits include: History of Richmond Municipality, an exhibit based on a local history project carried out in 1923 by a student, Mary Thompson; and, the Richmond Cenotaph, a reflection on the Cenotaph in Richmond as a memorial to honour those who died for our country in time of war.


Cranbrook Archives, Museum and Landmark Foundation "Picturesque Cranbrook Album"

Virtual exhibit entitled "Picturesque Cranbrook Album" is an online representation of a booklet published in 1905, depicting images of Cranbrook and area. This album was originally published "to celebrate a decade of growth and prosperity in Cranbrook."

Dawson Creek Municipal Public Library Dorthea Calverley Collection - History is Where You Stand

Virtual exhibit entitled "History is Where You Stand" based on the Dorthea Calverley collection of historical articles authored by Calverley and books, reference material and archives relating to the natural and human history of the Peace River area of British Columbia. Exhibit includes a short article on the history of the Peace River area written by Gerry Clare.

Fort St. John-North Peace Museum SchoolNet Project

This SchoolNet project, entitled "The Changing Faces of the North Peace", provides an historical introduction to the North Peace region of B.C. and includes photographs of people, industry, and early activities in the area.

Fort Steele Heritage Town Archives Virtual Exhibits

Online exhibits include the Fort Steele Heritage Town Archives Photograph Album and Map Exhibit, which include digitized representations of significant photographs and maps in the archives' holdings.

Fraser-Fort George Regional Museum "J.Simonson Photographic Collection" SchoolNet Exhibit

The Simonson Collection exhibit represents the work of Mr. Jacob Simonson, who resided in the Fort George area of Central B.C., now known as Prince George. His works span the early part of the century, and provide a visual record of local history.

Shawnigan Lake School Archives

Exhibits of archival material and historical summaries relating to a variety of significant persons and events at Shawnigan Lake School.

UBC Special Collections and University Archives - Virtual Displays

On-line versions of actual displays at UBC Library. The use of image-maps allows close-up views of exhibit items. Exhibits include: The Evolving Campus 1914-1973 ; Salmon Label Art ; Building the Main Library ; The Howay-Reid collection ; and, Leon and Thea Koerner University Center - A Look Back.

University of Victoria Archives and Special Collections SchoolNet Project

This SchoolNet project provides an introduction to two significant collections of archival material: the George R. Pearkes collection and the Victoria College fonds.

West Coast Forestry SchoolNet Project

The West Coast Forestry SchoolNet Project uses images and narrative text obtained from the North Vancouver Museum and Archives to illustrate the growth and demise of the forestry industry on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet.

West Coast Shipbuilding SchoolNet Project

"The Versatile Pacific Shipyard - A Part of Our Heritage" uses images from the holdings of the North Vancouver Museum and Archives.
