Welcoming Reception - hosted by Sun

Monday, December 12th

The Welcome Reception is a great place to network, renew old acquaintances and meet new friends! Join conference attendees, speakers, and exhibitors for a fun-filled evening of great food and drink. This popular event features plenty of hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.

Lightning Talks and a Movie

Tuesday, December 13th

The rolling thunder before the lightning begins with a 15 minute talk by Omar Tazi, Oracle's Open Source Evangelist. Omar will present "SOA: More than an Architecture - a Necessity" and share with the audience some fundamental challenges with respect to realizing SOA-based projects and best practices to address them.

We continue this informal and fun evening with ApacheCon lightning talks where speakers are invited to talk about *anything* they wish for 5 minutes. Ever wonder why your favorite geek has a certain tool always at the ready? Or, what is it exactly that happens when a cat yaks on a power strip? This is where you may very well find out.

FUD: The Movie

Tuesday evening will conclude with the world premier screening of "FUD", the documentary filmed at OSCOM 4 and ApacheCon US 2004 and directed by Apache Lenya creator Michael Wechner.

TUESDAY - Presenting Gil Tene -- Vice President of Technology and CTO, Co-Founder of Azul Systems
With almost two decades of technology engineering successes, Gil guides Azul Systems architectural vision and product design to align with business and market opportunity strategies. Prior to co-founding Azul Systems, Gil held numerous technology leadership positions at industry-leading companies including Nortel Networks/Shasta Networks, Check Point Software Technologies, Stratus and Qualix Communications. Prior to working for commercial companies, Gil served in the Israeli Navy Computer R&D; Unit. Gil also holds a BSEE from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. He is a member of numerous technology advisory boards and has been granted three patents in computer technology. Special Features

Wi-Fi Network and Online Lounge

ApacheCon provides a free Wi-Fi network to all conference attendees. The network covers all presentation rooms and the expo area. In addition to the Wi-Fi network an Online Lounge is available to all conference attendees, and the hotel provides free high-speed wireless in the lobby, which is nice and comfortable with two bars close at hand.

IBM is offering a 50% scholarship for the first 25 people to register for Jean Anderson's Tutorial T02, bringing the cost of this Tutorial to $175. Register now to receive this scholarship!


Open for Business

An entire track of sessions on Monday will focus on the needs of today's business professional. Starting with "The Zen of Free" presented by Simon Phipps, Chief Open Source Officer for Sun, we will explore which licenses and business models work and which don't, what the 'signature triangle' of an open source community looks like, and much more.
