Series I contains letters concerning the gallery's daily operations, accumulated and
generated by Maenz and also by his partner Gerd de Vries and assistants Elke Ctortnik
and Claudia Bäz. Correspondence concerns exhibition loans and consignment arrangements
(see Series III for loan forms and more correspondence after 1982), acquisitions by
museums and private collectors, photograph permission requests prior to 1986 (see Series
IV for after 1986). artists who showed with Maenz write about exhibitions, their work
and sales (see Series II for those artists represented by Maenz or who exhibited at the
gallery from 1970-1980). Some artists (well-known) advise Maenz about his new gallery
(1970-1971). Young artists seek=representation. A folder contains farewell letters sent
to Maenz upon the closing of the gallery. Many letters are annotated by Maenz with notes
or instructions. This series is filed alphabetically, and then chronologically (except
1980-1981 and 1982, which are in loose chronological order). Institutions are mostly
filed by city of origin (i.e. Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, is filed under "A").
