Beta of the Flickr Uploader for OS X

A beta of the Mac OS X Flickr Uploader is now available for free download. It enables drag and drop uploading from iPhoto and the Finder, setting tags and privacy in a batch, and is generally quite convenient. (For OS X.3 "Panther" and up, for now.)

Creative Commons

You can now choose to license the photos you upload to Flickr under logo_trademark a Creative Commons license. You can select a default for new images coming in to the system, batch-license existing photos, and alter your preference on a per-photo basis.

We're really happy to finally be able to provide Creative Commons licenses. As individuals and as a company we wholeheartedly support and endorse the Creative Commons' mission and hope to help contribute to the preservation and enhancement of creative freedom and personal expression.

In other news, there's been quite a few new features released in the last week, including statistics on photo page viewing, EXIF data handling, the ability to rotate images, improved search and we're about ready to release the beta of the Flickr Uploader for Mac OS X.

It's good to include images in every post, so here's a shout out to our users in Japan (some of whom have astoundingly good cameraphones):

Calendaring

There's a new way to look at photostreams: the calendar. Calendar views are automatically generated for everyone and you can easily skip between months or toggle between list mode and calendar mode.

Here's a screenshot of Heather Champ's amazing set of cameraphone photos for June:

Sandwich

One of freddy's many, many sandwiches

There is a lady called freddy who enjoys an unnatural love of sandwiches.

She has quite the series going on Flickr.

Working Spiff

Remember that movie Smoke with Harvey Keitel, where his character took a picture outside of his corner store every day at 8 AM? I love personal photographic records. B. Johnson has been recording the neckties that he wears every day, in a kind of poetry of the mundane. The whole series together is really quite beautiful.
