A: Apple Developer Connection is now online worldwide! Please go to the Member Log On Page at http://connect.apple.com and register. We added our European developers to our online system the week of August 22nd.

    Q. What developer programs and products are offered by the Apple Developer Connection?

A: Apple is offering three programs that bundle products and services:

The Online Program is free and is appropriate for developers who use the Apple Developer Connection web site, http://www.apple.com/developer/, as their primary source for technical and business resources and information. This web site includes up-to-date technical documentation for existing and emerging Apple technologies. Online members will receive a free subscription to the Apple Developer Connection News, a weekly e-mail broadcast to program members.

The Select Program is an annual membership perfect for developers who use the Apple Developer Connection web site but who also rely on the Apple Developer Connection Mailing for technical information and resources. The ADC Mailing includes the Developer CD Series, a wealth of technical resources, system software, development tools, technical documentation, Interactive Media Resources, SDKs, and more. The Select Program is the entry-level program for developers who want access to the Apple Software Seed CD and FTP site, as well as access to Apple's Compatibility Labs. Select Program members receive two incidents of technical support from Apple's Worldwide Developer Technical Support (WWDTS) engineers and a US$100 coupon for Metrowerks products. The Select Program is priced at US$500 per year.

The Premier Program is an annual membership for professional developers who desire more one-to-one technical support and a more complete suite of products and services from Apple. Premier Program members receive the ADC Mailing, which includes the Developer CD Series. It also includes access to the Apple Software Seed CD and FTP site, and access to Apple's Compatibility Labs. In addition, Premier Program members receive eight incidents of technical support from Apple's Worldwide Developer Technical Support (WWDTS) engineers, three US$100 coupons for Metrowerks products, the Apple Service Source CD, and a full-conference pass to the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. The Premier Program is priced at US$3500 per year.

More information on the Apple Developer Connection programs can be found at http://developer.apple.com/programs . In addition to these membership programs, Apple is now offering the following standalone products:

    • WWDTS E-mail Technical Support by the incident or in packs of 10, 25, or 50. This is one-to-one development-level technical support from Worldwide Developer Technical Support's highly skilled engineers. More information and incident support application can be found at http://developer.apple.com/programs/techsupport.html.

    • The Apple Developer Connection Mailing. The ADC Mailing is a 12-month subscription that includes the Developer CD Series, a wealth of technical resources, system software, development tools, technical documentation, Interactive Media Resources, SDKs, and more. More information can be found at http://developer.apple.com/programs/mailing.html.

Q: Why did Apple change the price of the programs?

A: We changed much more than just the price of the programs. We changed the programs themselves so that developers worldwide would have more options and could more easily self-select into an appropriate program for their needs. We have an online program that is free. We have a low-cost option, purchasing the Apple Developer Connection Mailing, that will meet the needs of developers who want the convenience of technical and business resources on CD. We have a mid-level option, the Select Program, that includes bundled technical support and tools and is the entry point for access to benefits such as prerelease software seeds. We offer a complete suite of products and services in our Premier Program. And of course, at any level, a developer may purchase the technical support he/she needs--from a single incident to packs of multiple incidents.

A: The ten systems limit applies for one year of program membership. If you were transferred to a Premier membership, you can purchase up to ten from the date you joined the old Partner Program until the date your Premier membership ends. In other words, if you have already purchased eight systems as a Partner and were transferred to the Premier Program, you can purchase two more systems between now and when your Premier membership expires. If you renew into the Premier Program, you may purchase ten more systems between the date you renew and your next renewal date, i.e. one full year later.

Q: Will my DevWorld bookmarks take me to the new Apple Developer Connection web site?

    A. The changes to our web site are significant. While your bookmark to the Developer World home page (http://www.devworld.apple.com) will now take you to the main Apple Developer Connection site, bookmarks further down in the directory will need to be changed. This will give you the perfect opportunity to explore our new site--we think you will find some great new Apple Developer Connection pages to bookmark!

Q: What do I do if the system doesn't accept my password?

A: When typing in the incorrect password three times, you will receive the following message: "You have unsuccessfully tried three times to connect. Please try again later." At this point you can immediately try to connect. Please refresh the login page rather than just using the back button. Sometimes a refresh must be forced by clicking on the refresh button, as sometimes typing in the root URL again is NOT the same as refetching the page, but is just like hitting the back button. Nine consecutive wrong passwords will disable your account, and it must be manually reset by an administrator at Apple. If you continue having problems, please send an email to devprograms@apple.com to obtain your account name and/or password.

Q: Do I need to enter my account name and password every time I want to browse the Apple Developer Connection web site?

A: No. You may browse the website whenever you need to get information or download files. To gain access to the ADC Member Log On area, you need to enter your user name and password. You may then view your assets, purchase programs or products, access your profile, or transfer your assets to other Online members.
