ADC Software Seeding entitles our Select and Premier members to receive seeding packages on many key Apple technologies. There is no extra charge for this extended seeding program, as it is one of the benefits of being a Select and Premier program member. This information, sent to you early on in the development cycle, will help you bring new and innovative products to market sooner. (While we include seeding on most of our projects, there may be some projects which necessarily need to be limited in their early stages.)

Q: Who is eligible to participate in ADC Software Seeding?

A: To be eligible to receive pre-release materials, you must sign up to be a member of the Apple Developer Connection Select or Premier programs. You will need to agree to the online Terms and Conditions and Prototype License and Confidentiality agreement.
You will begin to receive the monthly ADC Seed CD and the weekly "ADC Seed Update" e-mail when your Select or Premier membership becomes active. Please allow one mailing cycle to receive the ADC Seed CD and e-mail.

Q: How do I know if I'm on the ADC Software Seed recipient list?

If you have an "ADC Seed FTP Key" asset in your account, you should receive a weekly e-mail titled "ADC Seed Update." These e-mails are sent on Tuesday evening, or as needed. If you have an "ADC Seed CD" asset in your account you will receive the next monthly ADC Seed CD. If you are receiving the monthly CDs, but not the e-mail notices, that means that we do not have your proper e-mail address, your account has expired, or your server was down when the e-mail was sent.

Q: How do I request a copy of Mac OS X Server Developer Release 2?

A: Mac OS X Server DR2 is no longer being seeded due to the expiration of a third party software license. We will keep you informed through ADC Seeding e-mails as new software becomes available.

Q: I want to give FTP access to another person at my company. What should I do?

If you are a Select or Premier member, you have 5 FTP access keys assigned to your account. You may transfer a key to another Online member to allow them access to the FTP seeding server. Click on the Transfer button once you have logged on and enter the e-mail address of the person you would like to entitle. This person must already be registered in our (free) Online program for the transfer to take place. They will have access to the seeding site within 24 hours and will receive the next weekly "ADC Seed Update" seed notice.

Q: When will I receive an update on new seeds posted to the FTP site?

A: You will receive an e-mail with download instructions once a week. In the e-mail titled "ADC Seed Update," you will automatically receive your current FTP info as well as a list of seeds posted to the FTP site. You will receive this e-mail weekly. Most seeds posted to the FTP site will also be distributed on the monthly ADC Seed CD.

Q: My personal data is incorrect. How can I update my data?

A: Go to the ADC Online Member Area and update your profile.

Q: How can I apply for an Access Code for the FTP Seeding site?

A: To gain access to the ADC FTP Seeding site, you must first apply for an Access Code at http://devseed.apple.com/devseed/access. You will need to complete a form with information from your account profile.

Q: When applying for an access code, I get a message saying my data is incorrect. What can I do?

A: You will be asked to re-enter the data and submit again. The response begins with "Unfortunately the information...". You have three tries to enter your data correctly.

The information you enter into the Apple FTP Authorization Page to gain an access code must match your account profile EXACTLY. This information was also sent to you in the e-mail titled "ADC Seed Update." Changes to your account profile take effect overnight.

The verification process now correctly allows you to leave fields empty to match your information. For example, some developers do not have a postal code. Your authorization without a postal code will now work.

In addition, the verification process now correctly checks against Name and Company fields that contain numerals.

Q: I cannot connect to the FTP server at all. What can I do?

A: If you are behind a firewall (typical of most corporate environments), check your firewall settings with your firewall administrator. Each firewall is set up differently and will require a different setting to allow communication with devseed.apple.com.

Q: My personal data is incorrect. How can I update it? Will I receive a confirmation e-mail once the changes have been made?

A: Go to the ADC Online Member Area and update your profile. Your information will be changed in the system immediately, and you can access the FTP site the following day with your new information. The changes will be in effect the next day, so be sure to remember your updated information. Within a week, you will receive the weekly e-mail titled "ADC Seed Update" which should reflect any changes to your information.

Q: I've applied for an Access Code and have not received an e-mail confirmation. I entered my data correctly and was told that an e-mail titled "Apple FTP Site Access Code" had been sent to me. I did not receive the e-mail at all or within a one hour period. What can I do?

A: The e-mail titled "Apple FTP Site Access Code" is sent automatically and immediately after you have been correctly verified. You should be presented with a page that begins "Thank you, your information..." as an acknowledgment that the e-mail has been sent. If you do not receive the e-mail immediately, please check with your e-mail administrator and/or Internet Service Provider (ISP) on the frequency of your e-mail updates. Most e-mail gateways connect to the Internet and update very quickly (seconds to minutes), but a few only connect and update hourly or longer. If the latter is the case, you may wish to discuss this with your provider.

Q: I've applied for an Access Code, but nothing happens - no acknowledgment, no e-mail with Access Code received. What can I do?

    a. Your browser is not communicating with the host server at devseed.apple.com. Please ensure that your browser settings allow cookie acceptance. Cookie acceptance must be allowed automatically - without any manual acceptance required. Typically this setting is "Never Ask" under "Cookies". As a reminder, here are the instructions for the correct Cookie settings for the following browsers:

    i) Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.x
Under the "Edit" menu, Choose Preferences, Select "Advanced", and check "Accept all cookies." See screen shot.

    ii) Netscape Navigator 3.x
Under the "Options" Menu, Choose "Network Preferences", Select the "Protocols" tab and ensure that "Show an Alert Before" .. "Accepting a Cookie" is unchecked.See screen shot.

    iii) Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x/3.x
Click on "Preferences" button in toolbar, Select "Cookies" under "Receiving Files" and select "Never Ask" next to "When receiving cookies." See screen shot.

    b. If you are behind a firewall (typical of most corporate environments), check your firewall settings with your firewall administrator. Each firewall is set up differently and will require a different setting to allow communication with devseed.apple.com.

Q: I have received the e-mail titled "Apple FTP Access Code" and the URL in the e-mail does not parse correctly into Fetch.
A: Copying the complete URL from the "Apple FTP Site Access Code" e-mail into your FTP client now parses the information correctly. We added a "/" to the end of the URL to fix this. If you are using Apple Data Detectors, highlighting and "Command" clicking automatically launches your preferred FTP client application, correctly parses the URL and logs you into the FTP seeding site.

Q: My Access Code is no longer valid. How do I request a new Access Code?

A: a. Your Access Code is valid for a period of three hours from the time stamped on the "Apple FTP Site Access Code" e-mail. This time stamp is based on US Eastern Standard Time which is -5 hours GMT. Your Access Code validity is timed for three hours at US Eastern Standard Time. The time zone you are in does not affect the validity. If you did not receive the "Apple FTP Site Access Code" e-mail within the time that it is valid, please refer to "Never received Access Code e-mail"

    b. You have already connected once to the FTP server with your current access code - each code is valid for three connections, any additional connections require a new access code. This may occur if you are either using:

    1. an FTP client other than Fetch that uses multiple sessions or connections - for example Netscape or Microsoft browsers or Anarchie. Your client must be set to single connection only.

    2. Fetch in multi connection/session mode. Ensure that the following preferences are set (find Preferences under the "Customize" menu in Fetch): Single Connections only - Under the "Misc" tab in "Preferences", ensure that both the "Allow Duplicate Connections" and "Anarchie emulation mode" are unchecked.

    3. Fetch in Single Connection mode behind a firewall. If you are behind a firewall (typical of most corporate environments), check your firewall settings, within Fetch preferences, with your firewall administrator. Each firewall is set up differently and will require a different setting to allow communication with devseed.apple.com.

Q: How long is my access code valid?

A: The Access Code is valid for three hours from the time the email message leaves our server. Each code is valid for three connections. You have three hours to enter your Access Code, however once you've entered the FTP site, you can stay on the site for as long as you like. If you leave or are disconnected, you must repeat the process described to obtain an Access Code and begin downloading the software again. You may download the software seeds as often as you wish. You will need to request a new Access Code each time you want to access the FTP site.

Q: I have an Access Code but cannot connect to the server. What can I do?

    A: There are two possibilities:

    a. Your browser is not communicating with the server at devseed.apple.com.

Under the "Edit" menu, Choose Preferences, Select "Advanced", and check "Accept all cookies". See screen shot.

    ii) Netscape Navigator 3.x
Under the "Options" Menu, Choose "Network Preferences", Select the "Protocols" tab and ensure that "Show an Alert Before" .. "Accepting a Cookie" is unchecked.See screen shot.

    iii) Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x/3.x
Click on "Preferences" button in toolbar, Select "Cookies" under "Receiving Files" and select "Never Ask" next to "When receiving cookies". See screen shot.

    b. If you are behind a firewall (typical of most corporate environments), check your firewall settings with your firewall administrator. Each firewall is set up differently and will require a different setting to allow communication with devseed.apple.com.

I can see only the root directory. How can I get access to other directories?

A: This may occur if you are either using:

    1. an FTP client other than Fetch that uses multiple sessions or connections - for example Netscape or Microsoft browsers or Anarchie. Your FTP client must be set to single connection only.

Q: What FTP applications can I use?

A: We recommend that you use an FTP client to download software as you can select multiple segments simultaneously with an FTP client. Your FTP client must open only a single connection/session with the FTP seeding server. You may need to contact your network administrator to set your firewall settings.

Q: How can I connect to the server from behind the firewall?

A: If you are behind a firewall (typical of most corporate environments), check your firewall settings with your firewall administrator. Each firewall is set up differently and will require a different setting to allow communication with devseed.apple.com.
