Why is my Microsoft® .NET Passport not working?
There are a number of possible reasons why your Passport isn't working:

  1. You might be using a different Passport than the one you used when you signed up for MSN Learning & Research Plus.
If you use a different Passport, you will get this message:

    Welcome Passport User,
The Microsoft® .NET Passport you are using is not in our membership database. You must be a member to use MSN Learning & Research Plus.

If you are signed in with a Passport other than the one you used when you signed up for MSN Learning & Research Plus, please

    1. Click back to MSN Learning & Research, then click "Passport Sign Out"
    2. Sign in with a different Passport.

Do not sign up for a new Passport -- MSN Learning & Research Plus will not recognize a brand-new Passport. Sign in with one that you used when you joined Club Encarta, or when you signed up for membership to MSN Learning & Research Plus.

  2. You might not have completed the entire Club Encarta registration process.
If you are a Club Encarta member and your Passport doesn’t work, you likely only made it part way through the "Join Club Encarta" process. The last step of Club Encarta registration is the sign-in for MSN Learning & Research Plus. If you do not complete this step, MSN Learning & Research Plus will not recognize your Passport. To fix this, please go back and rejoin Club Encarta. Click through all of the steps until you see the message verifying you have successfully signed up.

Please note that the free access does not come with Encarta Encyclopedia Standard. You must have either Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe or Encarta Reference Library to access MSN Learning & Research Plus. Learn more about these products.

  3. You have not registered for the free access that came with your computer by joining Club Encarta.
You likely have not registered for your free access to Encarta Online. Encarta Online is part of MSN Learning & Research Plus. If Encarta Online came with your computer, you are eligible for a free membership to MSN Learning & Research Plus, but you need to join Club Encarta or MSN Learning & Research Plus won’t recognize you.

To join Club Encarta, click the Encarta Online icon on your Start menu or on your desktop. If you or someone else who uses your computer hasn’t yet joined Club Encarta, you will be asked to do so. This is how you activate your free membership to Encarta Online and MSN Learning & Research Plus.

  4. If you require further assistance with the Encarta Online Deluxe icon that came with your computer, please contact your computer manufacturer.
