The information relays
The relays have been set up over the years by the European Commission and are now a source of a wide range of information for the public.
Their role is essential because they are the principal instruments of the Union's information policy. Being so close to the public, they guarantee the availability of decentralised, specially tailored and user-friendly information.
Most of the information relays are intended for the general public and
are grouped in separate networks. This is true for the following networks:
- the Information Centres on Europe
- the Rural Information and Promotion Carrefours
- the Info-Points Europe (IPEs)
- the Urban Forums for sustainable development
There are also more specialised networks, such as:
- the European Documentation Centres (EDCs) in universities
- the Depository Libraries in the major national libraries
- the Euro-Info Centres (EICs) -DG XXIII- for businesses, especially small businesses
- the European Consumer Information Centres -DG XXIV-.
