Welcome to DGX at the European Commission
The involvement of citizens is one of the key elements that will determine the success of the European Union in the coming years. Developments such as the move towards a single currency, ever closer ties with Central and Eastern European countries and an institutional framework adapted to the ambitions and responsibilities of an enlarged Union, cannot be envisaged in a democratic society without the support and participation of the citizens. Their involvement depends first of all on the capacity of European politicians and Institutions to listen to their concerns and to provide clear and rapid information.
The Commission's department responsible for information, communication, culture and audiovisual policy is Directorate-General X. It is based in Brussels under the authority of Commissioner Marcelino Oreja.
