The Council Press Office, reporting directly to the Secretary-General, is responsible for daily information on Council activities. Its main task is to distribute press releases announcing and reporting on Council meetings and other events in which the Council participates. The press releases are distributed by post (on request) and through databases of the Commission and the European Parliament .
The Press Office also keeps journalists and others informed of the work of the Council before, during and after meetings by briefings and background notes. In addition, it is responsible for the management of the Press Centre and organizes press conferences and briefings for the Presidency and Council meetings when they are open to the public.
