![]() ritish Columbians are blessed with one of the most abundant sources of renewable power in the world - hydroelectricity. It's clean and greener than other conventional sources of electricity. Right now, hydroelectric power provides approximately 90-95% of BC's energy, supplying 1.5 million customers with clean and renewable energy. It's a delicate balance generating enough power for a growing British Columbia, while preserving our province's valuable environmental resources. BC Hydro is conducting research and development into alternative energy options so that we can continue to offer our customers high-value, innovative power solutions. We are also looking to develop green energy markets inside and outside our borders, in ways that provide net environmental, social and economic benefit to British Columbians. The Power is Yours Looking to the future, BC Hydro is actively exploring new, alternative energy solutions. Through a green energy futures team, we are researching diverse energy supply options using greener technologies that also reduce net greenhouse gas emissions. Water. It's clean and greener than other conventional sources of electricity. Renewable, reliable and affordable. And it will never run out. Right now it provides almost 95% of BC's electricity. But to prepare for the future, BC Hydro is researching even greener alternative sources that are environmentally desirable - wind, solar and fuel cell - through a newly formed green energy futures team. |
