Tourist destinationsThe Good View a branch of the popular Chiang Mai riverside restaurant. The good View is now drawing crowds of drinkers to the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya. A large venue, it sits at the working end of the river near the Krung Thep Bridge, so rather than five-star hotels and their dinner cruisers, the view here is of the next-door boatyard with ribs of abandoned wooden fishing boats poking through the mud banks and larger sea-going vessels laying up for repair.

Visiting Wat Phra Chetupon

Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

Tourist destinationsWat Phra Chetupon is one of the most important royal temples in Bangkok. I had been a regular visitor here since I was a child when I most enjoyed the annual fair held around Songkran holiday (Thai traditional New Year, 13 to 15 April). I was impressed by the enormous size of the area, which I later learnt that the temple actually covered approximately 80,000 square meters of ground, and the gigantic lying Buddha, the second largest in the Kingdom. There are also countless numbers of pagodas and Buddha images.

A recent visit to the temple, the first time in the last 4 to 5 years, was very impressive. It has been entirely renovated by the Fine Art Department. In addition to the tidiness, there are now facilities for visitors such as toilets, information center and even security guards. In my humble opinion, this is now one of the most precious treasures of Thailand which we all should help preserving and proudly present to the world. Today I would like to introduce you to some of the interesting information of the temple.
