The Government of British Columbia has committed 1% of direct stumpage revenues to the international marketing of BC forest products and forest practices. The Forestry Innovation Investment International Marketing Program is the mechanism through which these funding investments will be delivered, promoting the sustainability of BC forest practices, supporting the retention and development of existing markets for BC forest products, and developing and pursuing new forest sector market opportunities. The total budget for the International Marketing Program for 2002/03 is $12 Million.

Investments through the International Marketing Program will be made through two key program areas:

Forest Practices Promotion
Forest practices promotion will contribute to industry cost shared programs/projects, designed to communicate the quality and sustainability of BC’s forest practices to an international audience. The objective of these activities is to maintain existing international markets, by promoting the acceptance of BC forest industry practices based on the province’s environmental standards and industry’s forest management techniques. These messages will be aimed specifically at foreign governments, major customers for BC forest products, and other influential decision makers. The estimated budget for forest practices promotion activities for 2002/03 is $2.85 Million.
Forest Products Promotion
Forest products promotion will contribute to industry cost shared programs/projects that promote new or existing forest products in current and/or emerging markets. The objectives of these activities are to increase the sales and market share of BC forest products within international markets (including the United States), and to develop new market opportunities for BC wood products. The estimated budget for forest products promotion activities for 2002/03 is $8.55 Million.
