The Tourism Opportunity Study (TOS) program has now concluded. No further Tourism Opportunity Studies are anticipated to be undertaken.

A Tourism Opportunity Study (TOS) is an information tool that can be used to identify, develop and promote sustainable tourism opportunities around the province. The main objective of TOS’s is to identify those products and locations with the best development capability based on a combination of natural resources, market potential and local development capability.

This information indicates where entrepreneurs and communities can focus their tourism economic development attention. In some cases, the TOS may contain sufficient information for undertaking immediate tourism development activities. In most cases, additional detailed economic feasibility studies may be required to move from opportunity to reality. Please note that TOS's completed before 2000 do not contain a SWOT analysis of tourism opportunities.

Each TOS consists of a report and a series of maps. Some of the Studies have larger maps available for printing. These maps can be obtained from our Tourism Opportunity Map Warehouse. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the maps. If you do not have this free program you can download it from our Help page.
