CME Sponsorship The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Medical Association designates this journal-based CME activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit^TM per course. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Physicians who complete the CME course and score at least 80% correct on the quiz are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit^TM.

Statement of Educational Purpose The mission and educational purpose of JAMA and the Archives Journals is to promote the science and art of medicine and the betterment of the public health.
Readers of JAMA Network CME should be able to attain the following educational objectives: (1) read the CME article(s) to gain new medical information on a topic of general medical interest, (2) complete the quiz to assess their knowledge gained from reading the article, and (3) think carefully about how this new information may influence their own practices as reflected in the Commitment to Change form. The educational objective for the CME article(s) immediately precedes the CME Quiz.

CME Program Eligibility Physician subscribers to JAMA or one of the Archives Journals offering CME are eligible for the CME Program for the journal to which they subscribe. As a benefit of membership, AMA members are eligible for CME, for JAMA or any of the participating Archives journals. CME Courses may also be taken by individuals who purchase tokens.

Earning CME Credit You can access CME courses from the CME home page or from the article on which the CME course is based. To earn CME credit, read the article that is designated for CME credit carefully and take the CME quiz. You must take the CME quiz while your CME subscription is current. You can view and print a certificate awarding AMA PRA Category 1 Credit^TM when you successfully complete the quiz. You may save a partially completed quiz and return to it later by going to My CME. You may take a quiz as many times as you like until you complete it successfully. Once you complete it successfully, you cannot take the quiz again. Your credits will be tracked in My CME.
If you like, after you successfully complete the quiz you may also complete the Commitment to Change form linked from the quiz page.

Off-Label Drug Use Statement Some drugs discussed for specific indications in JAMA and Archives CME articles may not be approved for labeling and advertising for those indications by the United States Food and Drug Administration.

CME Deadlines CME courses may be taken for up to 2 years after they are offered, as long as your subscription, AMA membership, or token is active. CME courses older than 2 years may be taken for practice but are shown as EXPIRED on the CME site.
