Depending on your location, there are up to four different views available in Google Maps. Click the appropriate view in the right top corner of the map:

  • Street View - See below.
  • Traffic - This is identical to the Map view (see below), but also shows traffic conditions if they area available in the area currently displayed. Red depicts heavy traffic, yellow depicts slow traffic, green depicts normal speed and gray indicates that no traffic information is currently available.
  • Map - This shows a map with a traditional depiction of roads, parks, borders, bodies of water and more.
  • Satellite - This shows aerial imagery.
  • Hybrid - This shows aerial imagery and road information.

Using Street View New!

In certain locations, you can view and navigate within street-level imagery (view an example in San Francisco). To do this:

  1. Navigate to a location. If street views are available, the Street View button appears.
  2. Click Street View. Roads with available street views appear with a blue border.
  3. If you are zoomed far out, a camera icon Camera icon appears at locations with available street views. Zoom until you can see individual streets on the map.
  4. A human icon Human icon appears on the map. Click this icon to view a street view for this location or click any street with a blue border. An info window appears with street level imagery. The green arrow points in the direction you're looking
  5. To rotate the view, do any of the following:
  • Drag the imagery right or left
  • Click the pivot arrows Pivot arrows
  1. To zoom in or out, do one of the following:
  • Drag the slider
  • Click + or -
  • Double click the point on the image to zoom in. Once you have done this, click Zoom Out to return to the original view.
  1. To navigate along a street, click one of the white arrows overlaid on the street to move in that direction. You can also use arrow keys. Street names display within the info window. You can navigate on to another street once you reach the center of an intersection.
  2. To expand the info window and view a larger street view, click Full-screen or Full screen button. To shink an expanded info window, click Resize button. To close a window, click Close buttonClose info window button.
