1 Two San Francisco JobsSenior Developer
There are two openings for Bay Area web developers. We seek broadly skilled generalists capable of back end and some front end web development. We desire strong teamwork, documentation, business acumen, mentoring, and communications skills. The position requires strong proficiency in one or more of our core backend environments, Python & Zope and PHP or Perl with MySql. Recommended experience includes server-side Java, UML, XML, peer-to-peer, database design, groupware application development, content management systems. Recommended front-end skills include Javascript/DHTML programming and Flash. Community organizing, marketing, business ownership, labor union, and co-op experience are plusses. Developers must be able to work from SDO’s office in San Francisco four days a week.
Director of Application Development
In addition to the skills of the Senior Developer above, this position requires strong team building and software project management skills, and a strong development methodology, preferably using UML. We’re looking for someone who really gets how open source can be used to help organizations and individuals collaborate, and who can lead our team to deliver these solutions affordably for our clients.
Freelance Now; Co-Own the Business Later
The company is in transition from a sole proprietorship to an incorporated worker-owned co-operative. Our co-operative structure means that staff members share all the duties and responsibilities of business ownership, and collaborate together to manage and grow our business. We’re looking to bring on developers initially as freelancers working within a set project budget. Candidates should be interested in collective ownership, and be willing to contribute ‘sweat equity’ labor to build the business. If things go well, this equity will constitute your investment into the business as a co-owner. SDO staff is a close knit group whose cohesion depends on our ability to self-manage, document our work, mentor each other, hash out policy, plan the business, and laugh and play together.
