Starting in January 2004, a fleet of more than a dozen spacecraft will make headlines from across the solar system. This timeline highlights major upcoming launches and events from mid-2003 to 2006. Teachers can also download an activity - aligned to National Science Education Standards - that allows students to depict, research and follow along with the NASA missions.

The eight science objectives outlined in the roadmap represent the most important directions for the exploration of our solar system in the coming decades. They will guide the activities of Solar System Exploration and Mars Exploration – two of NASA’s strategic themes – in fulfillment of NASA’s goals. They also provide the context through which we formulate our specific research objectives and define the science investigations and missions that address them.
