RESEARCHERS GIVE UPDATE ON KWADAY DAN SINCHI PROJECTS

VICTORIA, November 30, 2000 - Research scientists from around the world are conducting detailed studies on the 500-year-old human remains found in the Tatshenshini-Alsek Park in August 1999.

Several scientists joined Small Business, Tourism and Culture Minister Gerard Janssen at a news conference this afternoon to provide a status report on the project.

They will discuss their research at a public information session at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the University of Victoria.

A total of 17 research projects led by scientists from Canada, Britain and the U.S. are currently underway. Drawing on community expertise, the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations are also leading several cultural research projects.
