The Government of British Columbia is committed to restoring
the economic prosperity of the province and its communities.
In its New Era document, the government made a commitment to:
Establish a working forest land base, to provide greater stability
for working families and to enhance long-term forestry management
and planning.
The Working Forest initiative is intended to address land-base
certainty as one means of assuring a strong and sustainable
economy. The Working Forest land base will continue to meet
a diversified
range of economic, environmental and social needs.
Government staff have prepared a Working Forest
discussion paper and are inviting public and stakeholder comments
on the proposed
initiative until March 14, 2003. Click
here to access the Working Forest discussion paper.
