The BBSRC has recently awarded a research grant to the VUV-IR
group at CLRC Daresbury Laboratory to built a fluorescence microscope
for single transmembrane receptor studies in living cells. The full text
of the research application can be found here.
The microscope will be used to collect single pair fluorescence resonance energy transfer (smFRET) and single molecule fluorescence polarisation (smFP) from a physiologically relevant group of receptors in a living cell. The SM data obtained from the new facility will provide information on, for example:
