The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a short ride away from major airports and train stations. Our offices are based on or near the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus in Baltimore, Maryland.

Driving Directions to STScI

From all points south:

Including the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) in Linthicum, Maryland, the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia, and the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Dulles, Virginia:

Take I-95 N to exit 53 for I-395 N toward downtown Baltimore. Continue following I-395, which becomes South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Turn left onto North Howard Street. Continue onto Wyman Park Drive. Turn left to stay on Wyman Park Drive. Continue straight onto San Martin Drive. Your destination will be on the left. Pull into the circle in front of the Steven Muller Building.

From center city:

Including Amtrak’s Pennsylvania Station on North Charles Street in the Mount Vernon neighborhood:

Head north on Charles Street. Turn left onto West 29th Street. Turn right onto Wyman Park Drive. Turn left to stay on Wyman Park Drive. Continue straight onto San Martin Drive. Your destination will be on the left. Pull into the circle in front of the Steven Muller Building.

From all points north:

Take I-95 S to exit 64 for I-695 W. Keep right at the fork to continue on I-83 S, following signs for Baltimore. Take exit 9A-9B for West Cold Spring Lane. Turn left onto West Cold Spring Lane. Turn right onto Roland Avenue. Use any lane to make a slight left onto West University Parkway. Turn right onto San Martin Drive. Your destination will be on the right. Pull into the circle in front of the Steven Muller Building.

Transportation Resources

Parking Locations and Policies

Steven Muller Building and Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy

Visitors must obtain a parking hangtag for their cars before parking in our free garage. Please pull into the circle in front of the Muller Building and visit the reception desk to obtain a tag. Cars parked across the street in the garage without a tag or an employee parking sticker may be subject to tickets or towing.

Parking is available for vehicles with handicapped tags or permits in front of the Muller Building and the garage across the street.

Additional visitor parking is available free of charge in Johns Hopkins’ San Martin Center Garage, located approximately two blocks from the Muller Building and Bloomberg Center. Bring your entry ticket to the Muller Building front desk to obtain a parking pass before exiting the garage.

Stieff Silver Building

Free parking is available in the parking lots next to the building and across the street. No tag or sticker is required. Designated handicapped parking is available.

The Rotunda

Visitors may park on the surface lot if visiting for less than two hours. If your visit is longer, please park in the garage, where charges may apply. Designated handicapped parking is available. 

Shuttle Service

STScI operates shuttles between the Muller Building, the Rotunda, and the Stieff Silver Building office locations to make it easy to get from one location to another. Request a shuttle or ask about our schedule by contacting facilities at the front desk of the Muller Building.

Employees are also permitted to use the Johns Hopkins Blue Jay Shuttle around the university’s Homewood campus. Simply show your badge to the driver before boarding. Each employee is allowed one guest.

Public Transportation Systems

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) includes bus systems, the Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) Train, the Light Rail, Metro Subway, and other transportation to take you throughout the city and surrounding region.
