The British
Columbia protected areas system is guided by planning processes
that establish goals for the overall management of protected areas
and identifies potential lands and waters to be added to the system
System Planning
BC Parks participates
in interagency planning initiatives focussed on regional land use
planning and marine protected areas planning and management.
Management
Planning
BC Parks prepares
management plans to guide how a protected area will be managed over
the next ten to twenty years. The plan sets out objectives and actions
for conservation, development, interpretation and operation of a
protected area. A management plan relies on current information
relating to such subjects as natural values, cultural values, and
recreation opportunities within a protected area and resource activities
occurring on surrounding lands.
This Planning
Section of BC Parks' website provides information on the process
used to prepare management plans, current plans, management direction
statements and background reports.
