From here, you take Lombard Ave into the Presidio until it ends at Presidio Boulevard. - Bear right. After one block Presidio Blvd. takes a sharp left and turns into what is now Lincoln Boulevard until you hit the Main Post (passing the Fire Station and Post Office). - Turn left onto Montgomery there will be a row of huge red brick buildings on your right and a huge parking lot on your left. - The first cross street is Sheridan Avenue - Turn right and go one block, crossing Taylor Road the yellow building on your right is Building 116. Bike and car parking is behind the building in the lot along Taylor Road (see the close-up map).

Using mass transit from within San Francisco

Our region of the Presidio is served by San Francisco MUNI bus routes:

• 29 (Sunset) As you reach the Main Post of the Presidio, ask the driver to let you off at the corner of Graham and Sheridan. Walk west from there along Sheridan (towards the row of red brick buildings), cross Montgomery and Taylor and Building 116 is on your right. map.
• 43 (Masonic) Get off at Letterman Hospital.
• 82X (Levi Plaza express) (rush-hour service to the CalTrain station). Get off at the Main Post (Lincoln Boulevard at Montgomery). Walk down Montgomery (with the row of red brick buildings on your right) to Sheridan. Turn right onto Sheridan, cross Taylor Road, and Building 116 is on your right.
• The 41 (Union) and 45 (Union-Stockton) serve downtown and drop you off at Lyon and Union streets, just a few blocks south of the Lombard Gate to the Presidio.

It's about a ten minute walk from the Lombard gate or Letterman Hospital to us in Building 116. (See the map).

• If you are coming the Mission or Castro districts, take the 33 (Stanyan) to Haight street, cross the street, and then board a 43 (Masonic) headed the other direction (East---it turns North onto Masonic).
• If you are coming from the South Bay on CalTrain, the 45 and (at rush hours only) the 82X provide good connections from the 4th and Townsend station.
• If you are coming on BART, get off at Powell Street Station and take the 45 bus heading North up Stockton (Stockton is parallel to and one block East of Powell).

From The North Bay

Highway 101 South across the Golden Gate Bridge.

From the GG Bridge Toll Plaza continue on 101 and follow signs 101-DOWNTOWN and 101-PRESIDIO for 1.5 miles.

Highway 101 (which becomes Doyle Drive) splits into MARINA (to the left) and DOWNTOWN/LOMBARD (to the right). Veer to the RIGHT toward DOWNTOWN/LOMBARD.

From the MARINA/LOMBARD split, follow 101/DOYLE DRIVE to DOWNTOWN/LOMBARD for 1/2 mile and turn RIGHT onto LYON (a 45-degree right-hand turn).

Proceed on LYON two blocks to LOMBARD. Turn RIGHT onto LOMBARD into the Presidio of San Francisco through the Lombard Gate.

From The South Bay

There are two paths when driving from the South:

• Using Interstate 280
• Using Highway 101

Highway 101 North to San Francisco

When Highway 101 splits to 80-BAY BRIDGE and 101-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, veer to the left and proceed on 101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

Follow 101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE turn-off and proceed on Highway 101 1/4-mile to the MISSION STREET/101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE exit. After exiting the Highway, turn RIGHT onto MISSION STREET. Proceed two blocks to VAN NESS AVENUE.

Turn LEFT onto VAN NESS AVE/101 NORTH. Proceed on VAN NESS AVENUE/101 NORTH for two miles to LOMBARD Street.

Turn LEFT onto LOMBARD STREET and proceed one mile to BRODERICK. Immediately following the intersection of LOMBARD and BRODERICK get in the left-hand turn lane (there will be signs to the Presidio).

Turn LEFT onto LOMBARD (yes, you are turning Left onto Lombard as the Lombard you turned off-of becomes Richardson after the Broderick intersection traffic signal). Proceed two blocks to LYON and the gates to the Presidio are immediately in front of you.

Proceed through the gates into the Presidio of San Francisco, passing through the Lombard Gate.

Interstate 280 North to San Francisco

When Interstate 280 splits to ROUTE 1 and 280, veer to the left and proceed on ROUTE 1 (19 th Avenue)

Follow ROUTE 1 / 19 th AVE North across San Francisco. You enter a tunnel, and after you emerge, take the exit on the RIGHT (rather than following 1 North merging into 101 North feeding you on the Golden Gate Bridge). This puts you one what is nominally 101 South (although you are in fact heading East).

The Presidio is on your right and the Exploratorium / Palace of Fine Arts is dead ahead. Follow 101 South heading towards LOMBARD Street (that is, don't take the left-hand exit for the Marina).

As soon as you've passed the Lombard / Marina exit split, turn RIGHT onto LYON STREET and proceed two blocks to the Lombard Gate of the Presidio.

Proceed through the gates into the Presidio of San Francisco, passing through the Lombard Gate.

From The East Bay

Interstate 80 West over the San Francisco Bay Bridge. Upon passing the Fremont St Exit (first exit off of the Bay Bridge), proceed 1-1/4 miles to Highway 101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE.

Follow 101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE turn-off and proceed on Highway 101 1/4-mile to the MISSION STREET/101 NORTH-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE exit. After exiting the Highway, turn RIGHT onto MISSION STREET. Proceed two blocks to VAN NESS AVENUE.

Turn LEFT onto VAN NESS AVE/101 NORTH. Proceed on VAN NESS AVENUE/101 NORTH for two miles to LOMBARD Street.

Turn LEFT onto LOMBARD STREET and proceed one mile to BRODERICK. Immediately following the intersection of LOMBARD and BRODERICK get in the left-hand turn lane (there will be signs to the Presidio).
