BGen Woiden

Brigadier-General Kelly Woiden was born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in Vernon, British Columbia.

Brigadier-General Woiden enrolled as a Private in The British Columbia Dragoons in October 1975. As a Corporal he was posted to The Royal Canadian Dragoons in Germany for a flyover task as an Armoured Reconnaissance Crewman in 1978. He became an Officer Cadet in 1981 and was commissioned shortly thereafter. In September 1984, he moved to Calgary, Alberta to further his education, and transferred to The King’s Own Calgary Regiment serving as a Troop Leader and Battle Captain before being promoted to Lieutenant in October 1986.

In September 1988, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba for civilian employment and transferred to The Fort Garry Horse. He was promoted to Captain in October 1989 with a subsequent promotion to Major in September 1993. During 13 years of Regimental service, he was employed as a Battle Captain, Operations Officer, Squadron Second-in-Command, Squadron Commander and Deputy Commanding Officer prior to being appointed as Acting Commanding Officer in June 1997. After completing the Militia Command and Staff Course in July 1997, he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and took command of The Fort Garry Horse on the same date.

Brigadier-General Woiden attended the National Security Studies Seminar in March 2001 and in September of that year, he was appointed Assistant Chief of Staff of 38 Canadian Brigade Group.  In August 2002, he was appointed the Senior Project Officer at Land Force Western Area in Edmonton, Alberta. In April 2003, he returned to 38 Canadian Brigade Group and was appointed Deputy Commander.

In June 2004, Brigadier-General Woiden was promoted to Colonel and appointed Commander of 38 Canadian Brigade Group, relinquishing command in March 2007.  In December of 2007, he completed the Advance Military Studies Programme at Canadian Forces College in Toronto, Ontario.

On January 12, 2008, Brigadier-General Woiden was promoted and appointed Deputy Commander Land Force Western Area and Joint Task Force West.
 
Brigadier-General Woiden has been employed at Bristol Aerospace Ltd in Winnipeg, Manitoba since 1988. He has held various engineering, flight test and program management positions and is currently a Marketing and Business Development Representative. He has an advanced Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering Technology and a Diploma (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He also has a Certificate in Management from the University of Manitoba and is in the process of completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.

Brigadier-General Woiden is married to Darlene and they have a daughter and son.
