The "Big" Commercial Audition?
Maybe it's that things have been super-slow for me since my last "project" in November - which then pushed me to be way more choosy about what I look for and go after - or maybe it's because this is...

"ER" Audition Tomorrow!
(Just look at me - grinning like I've already booked it!)I'm going straight to producers for "ER" tomorrow, and I am very excited. I've been working on my sides all weekend - I finally had to just put them down...

Closing Time
I have to be honest. I didn’t write for the last week because I had the hardest time putting into words what the closing show of Spring Awakening on Broadway was like. It is nothing I have ever experienced before....

Sleep in Peace, My Dear
How much can we ever really know somebody? We all have a public self and a private self and sometimes the public mask is so convincing that the fragile, private self is only momentarily glimpsed. Just three weeks ago, I...

I got up early today so I could be at the dermatologist's office in time for my 9AM appointment. It was drizzling, and L.A. drivers tend to freak out when there is the least little bit of water coming down,...

Gideon's Flower-Child Retrospective Blossoms
Veteran singer-actor Steve Gideon, acclaimed for countless stage productions performed in the Southland during the past several years (such as the all-male version of Sondheim's Marry Me a Little, the smash nudie revue Naked Boys Singing, and the long-running private-eye spoof Nite Club Confidetial) brought his The Happening cabaret revue to Michael Sterling's new Broadway in Concert series at the Canyon Club in Agoura on January 21 and it was a baby boomer's paradise. Previously seen at the M Bar in Hollywood (where it will soon be returning in additional engagements) and in earlier incarnations at local hot spots, the...

Moderates Fire Allen, Appoint McGuire Chief Negotiator
SAG moderates, thwarted in their attempts to fire Doug Allen at a marathon national board meeting earlier this month, suceeded today in ousting the national executive director and chief negotiator by issuing a written assent decree. The moderates also dissolved the negotiating committee and replaced it with a task force. Replacing Allen will be David White, the guild's general counsel from 2002-06, and John T. McGuire, the guild's senior adviser and a former deputy national executive director. White would function as interim NED, and McGuire would become the chief negotiator of all SAG contracts, even the TV-and-film contract, negotiations for...

'Phantom' Celebrates 21st Birthday Tonight
The Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera celebrates its 21st anniversary today, Jan. 26, at the Majestic Theatre. Or, as Playbill notes, "The Phantom is old enough to legally drink alcohol in the state of New York."The show will be playing its 8,732nd performance tonight, and is the first Broadway production to run 21 years. Phantom already became the longest-running show in Broadway history when it surpassed the performance count of Lloyd Webber's Cats in 2006.-- Daniel Lehman

Jon Friedman Celebrates Rejection
For Jon Friedman, rejection has been a good thing. You wouldn't think so looking at his credits. Aside from his day gig writing for the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon website, Jon is an actor, producer and director of one-person shows, sketch/variety productions, and short videos and films. Past productions include the New York City Beard & Moustache Championships, The Delicious Sandwich Social, The ECNY Awards and many other popular live events.
