Township
May Join Games Bid
Langley
township is considering making a bid with Langley city to co-host the
B.C. Summer Games in either 2004 or 2006. Township council was to
discuss the proposal last night. Langley would probably use municipal
athletic parks for track and field events and the Walnut Grove Aquatic
Centre for swimming, said Jason Winslade, acting director of parks and
recreation for Langley.
The
cost of hosting the Games, as well as the time needed, is being assessed
and will be outlined to council in one month. Langley township and
Langley city are already co-hosting the 2000 BC Disability Games in July 2000.
"The
residents view Langley as one," Winslade said of the bid to co-host
the Games. "It's also better for volunteer and business support
throughout Langley, as well as splitting the costs and staff needed.
