The Board of
Directors of the Northern B C Winter Games Society met in Mackenzie on
September 23 and reviewed the bids received to host future Games. As a
result of this process, host communities were selected as follows.
The 2002 Games
will be held in Smithers. Smithers is a previous host community having
been home to the 1979 and 1986 Northern B C Winter Games as well as the
1994 BC Winter Games. It has also hosted numerous other sport and
cultural events.
The 2004 Games
will be held in Kitimat. Kitimat is also a previous host community
having hosted the 1985 Northern B C Winter Games as well as the 1993 B C
Winter Games. As well Kitimat has also been host to numerous sport and
cultural events.
The formal
announcement of the 2003 host will be made shortly, once some final
details are confirmed.
The Board is
excited about the selection of these communities to host upcoming Games.
Both have shown the northern spirit and hospitality in hosting past
Games and we are confident they will do so again.
The 2001 Northern
B C Winter Games will be held in Mackenzie, February 1 – 4.
