Northern
B.C. Winter Games Society
Press Release
Partnership
Formed with RCMP
October 15, 2000
The Board of
Directors of the Northern B C Winter Games Society, at a meeting held in
Mackenzie, in September approved and signed a partnership agreement with
the RCMP North District Drug Awareness Service.
The Society and the
Service share common values that drugs are harmful substances and the
Society supports a zero tolerance to substance misuse by its participants.
This partnership
will enable both organizations to work together to promote zero tolerance
to the use of drugs within our communities and, in particular, by Games
coaches, athletes, chaperones and billeting families.
Society Past
President Kathy Bedard stated "The Northern B C Winter Games Society
is very honored to have the RCMP North District Drug Awareness Service as
a partner. This partnership will strengthen the commitment to a zero
tolerance policy of substance misuse throughout the Games weekend. The
RCMP North District mirrors the geographic region of the Northern B C
Winter Games and our agreement will enable the host communities throughout
the North, to organize events around the sharing of information about
drugs in sport and in their area."
The 2001 Northern B
C Winter Games will be held in Mackenzie, February 1 – 4.
