60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship logoCanadian Citizenship

This year we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Canadian citizenship. Did you know that prior to 1947 people living in this country were considered British subjects?

The passage of the Citizenship Act showed that Canada was now it's own country, and ready to become a key player on the world stage. This year, we will reflect on how far Canada has come in these past 60 years—and what Canadian Citizenship means to us.

Citizenship Retrospective – a look back at Canadian citizenship

Launch at Supreme Court – the 60th anniversary celebrations will kick off on February 16 at the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario with a special citizenship ceremony.

Citizenship Ceremonies – want to attend a citizenship ceremony and take part in the celebration?

Reaffirmation Ceremonies – take the opportunity to celebrate your own citizenship by hosting a reaffirmation ceremony.

Photo Gallery – photos from citizenship ceremonies, and other events.
