Processing times will vary based on:

• Type of application submitted;
• Volume of applications received;
• How easily we can verify information;
• How well and how quickly you respond to any requests or concerns;
• Whether the application is complete.

Many more people want to immigrate to Canada than the Government of Canada can bring in each year under our annual immigration plan. Applications received after the maximum has been met may have to wait longer to be processed.

This number is our new processing time objective for spousal sponsorship applications.

We aim to process about 80 percent of spousal sponsorship applications that we get on or after December 7, 2016, within 12 months from the day we receive the application.

This number can provide a general idea of how long processing may take. In some cases it may take more to process your application than the time shown.

In the future, this number will change as we’re working on reducing processing times to 12 months.

We aim to finalize most (80 percent) of the applications we’ve already received as of December 7, 2016, by the end of December 2017.
