On 6 December 2008, the stand-up of the Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF-Afg) Air Wing ushered in a new era in Canadian Forces air operations. Canadian airmen and airwomen have deployed literally around the world on a wide variety of missions over the years, but the JTF-Afg Air Wing is the first formation of its type that Canada has formed in a theatre of war since 1945.
