APE 2005 Special Guests


APE, the Alternative Press Expo, once again presents a diverse line-up of special guests.



James Sturm

James Sturm Self-Portrait The multi-award winning creator of The Golem's Mighty Swing (Time Magazine's Best Graphic Novel of 2001), James Sturm's work also includes Hundreds of Feet Before Daylight and the recent Above and Below, Two Tales of the American Frontier, published by Drawn & Quarterly. In 2005, he will join the faculty of the new school, The Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont. He won an Eisner Award in 2004 (for Best Limited Series) for his work on the Marvel Comics Fantastic Four mini-series, Unstable Molecules.

The creator of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comes to APE to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his mega-popular creation. Jhonen Vasquez is also known for his Invader Zim cartoon series on Nickelodeon, and his other comic creations, Fillerbunny and Squee!




Lauren Weinstein

Her Xeric Grant-winning book, Inside Vineyland put her on the map as a cartoonist to watch. Lauren Weinstein's work has also appeared in anthologies including Blood Orange, Legal Action Comics and Scheherezade. In 2004, Lauren won the Ignatz Award for Promising New Talent at SPX for her work in Kramers Ergot #4, published by Avodah Books.
