Expanded space proves a success!
Over 3,800 attend Alternative Press Expo

The 2004 Alternative Press Expo, (APE), held at the Concourse Exhibition
Center in San Francisco, California drew a record 3,800 people to
the February event.
Utilizing both upper levels of the Center, the convention expanded
it’s exhibitor base from 208 tables sold in 2003 to over 250 tables
sold for the 2004 three day show.

The premier event for independent, self published and alternative
comics, the Alternative Press Expo featured such guests as; Aaron
A. (Serenity Rose, courtesy SLG Publishing), Alison
Bechdel (Dykes to Watch Out For), Charles
Burns (Black Hole), Carol
Lay (Story Minute) and APE founder Dan Vado, the
head of SLG Publishing.
In addition to the guests, APE also held panels and programs on books
to look for on the APE floor and in 2004, self-publishing, comics
formats (mini-comic vs. pamphlet vs. graphic novel), gay comics and
the new volume of Spark Generators, talking with creators about
who inspired them to be cartoonists.

The Alternative Press Expo was successful on so many levels, and much
of the credit must go not only to those who organized the event, but
to the many volunteers, exhibitors and attendees who made it all possible.
Comic-Con International, which produces the Alternative Press Expo
is a nonprofit educational corporation dedicated to creating awareness
of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms, primarily
through the presentation of conventions and events that celebrate
the historic and ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture.
