Food manufacturing process and processing aid applications
Within the context of European Union (EU) authorisation procedures, EFSA is requested to carry out the safety evaluation of food manufacturing processes and certain food processing aids in those areas that are regulated, e.g. irradiation of foodstuff and extraction solvents. This work is done by the Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids (CEF) and, in the case of food processing aids dealing with decontamination treatments for food of animal origin jointly by the CEF Panel and the Panel on Biological Hazards.
