The framework Council Directive 89/398/EEC that covers foods for particular nutritional uses indicates that the Commission will report on the desirability of special provisions for foods intended for people suffering from diabetes. Initial consultations with interested parties have been held on this issue. The Commission intends to report and put forward legislative proposals but the specific timing can not yet be given.
