The Governor General of Canada is the Commander-in-Chief of Canada. She encourages excellence and dedication, visits military bases across Canada, and often welcomes troops home and performs other ceremonial duties. Her Excellency is the Chancellor and a Commander of the Order of Military Merit that recognizes exceptional service and performance by members of the Canadian Forces.

The Governor General is the Queen's personal representative in Canada and is appointed by the Sovereign upon the advice of the Prime Minister. As Canada's 27th Governor General, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean carries out Her Majesty's duties in Canada on a daily basis.
