These are lists of texts and documents, listed by authors, covering philosophy, literature, history, science, arts. Links may change, because of the dynamic nature of Internet (and also because some sites are rather inconstant with their URL's - and users!). When possible, several versions are offered. These are free Internet texts for educational and cultural purpose. Commercial use is prohibited. Please suggest any additions (only texts free of rights) and corrections. Thank you!

Warning! People living in countries with censorship on literature should read the notice at CMU: Banned books on-line. Some people are also advised to be acquainted with Index librorum prohibitorum (recently abolished, but its spirit remains in several places...), or analogue lists, before displaying or downloading the texts of Descartes, Voltaire, Rousseau, etc. I hope reading and thinking will be unpunished vices in our brave new world.

Voici des listes de textes classée par noms d'auteurs. Il s'agit d'oeuvres de philosophie, littérature, histoire, science, arts. Les liaisons peuvent changer, à cause de l'évolution constante d'Internet (et aussi parce que certains sites sont plutôt désinvoltes et inconstants avec leurs URL's - et leurs utilisateurs!). Plusieurs versions sont offertes, lorsque c'est possible. Ces textes circulent librement sur Internet et sont destinés à l'éducation et à la culture. Tout usage commercial est interdit. Additions (seulement textes libres de droits) et corrections sont bienvenues. Merci d'avance!

Avertissement! Les personnes habitant dans des pays où la censure de textes littéraires existe devraient lire la notice à CMU: Banned books on-line. Certains devraient connaître l'Index librorum prohibitorum (abrogé récemment, mais dont l'esprit demeure en plusieurs endroits...), ou des listes analogues, avant d'afficher ou de télécharger les textes de Descartes, Voltaire, Rousseau, etc. Quant à moi, j'espère que les vices consistant à lire et à penser seront impunis dans notre meilleur des mondes.

Results will depend on your request.

There are many texts here! If you open and read one text every day (Sundays, Christmas, Ramadan, November 3rd, etc., included) ... you'll be 20 years older when you'll finish this job; I suggest you spend two minutes to choose hereunder the best search tool you need.

If you click on Authors whose name begins with any given letter, you will obtain a long heteroclite list of books (Baudelaire, Boccaccio, Booth, Burroughs...). If you click on Swiss authors, you will obtain only texts related to Swiss authors (Calvin, Rousseau, Sismondi, Wyss...). If you click on Philosophy you will obtain texts related to philosophy and psychology (Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Plato...). Etc.

If you want to obtain a more accurate result, use the Search tools and type the author's name or title (or a string of characters) yourself: you'll get a faster and more coherent result. You can also search on a given word in all texts.

Errors could have been caused by the mistyping of keywords; please report any problem. Thank you!
