Celebrating 50 Years This year marks an important milestone. Fifty years ago—for the first time—a Canadian citizen was named as Governor General of Canada. Since 1952, nine remarkable Canadians have served as Governor General. They have come from different regions and backgrounds, reflecting the diverse nature of our society. This collection of 43 photos is built around three themes: On Duty, Real people and Going Places. Click on the photos below for a glimpse of Canadian Governors General carrying out their duties with grace and intellect, proving to be a source of inspiration for Canadians and serving their country well.
This exhibit will be open to the public as of April 30th. Until May 17, 2002, guided tours of Rideau Hall, the historic residence of the Governor General, can be reserved at (613) 991-4422 or 1-866-842-4422. From May 18 to June 23, 2002, the residence is open to the public for tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. From June 26 to September 2, 2002 the residence is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. |
