Commander of the Order of Military Merit

Commanders of the Order are appointed for outstanding meritorious service while fulfilling duties of great responsibility.

They are entitled to wear a badge suspended from a ribbon around the neck, and can use the initials C.M.M. after their name.

Throughout 31 years of service, Major-General Macdonald has demonstrated a high level of personal dedication and sense of responsibility to his country. As a professional fighter pilot his performance has been outstanding. His wide spectrum of command and senior appointments includes, among others, Commanding Officer of 434 Squadron, Base Commander of CFB Lahr, Assistant Chief of Staff Combat Allied Forces Northern Europe, Director General Aerospace Doctrine and secondment to the Privy Council Office. Throughout these assignments, he demonstrated an ability to understand complex issues and find reasoned and workable solutions. These attributes led to his nomination to his present appointment as the Leader of the Management Command and Control Re-engineering Team, where he is successfully leading a large re-engineering and downsizing activity which will have a major impact on the Canadian Forces. Major-General Macdonald has achieved remarkable results; his career is a fine example of professionalism and dedication to duty.
