Ceremonial Guard

Colour, pageantry and precision — the Ceremonial Guard is one of the most popular summer attractions at Rideau Hall. Don't miss the Relief of the Sentries as Guards in scarlet tunics and bearskin hats, accompanied by a bagpiper, march to their posts at the Main Gate and in front of the residence. The Relief of the Sentries is a favourite Rideau Hall tradition and an experience you and your family won't soon forget!

Hours for Relief of the Sentries:

  • June 24 to August 24, 2002: every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You are also invited to witness the impressive Inspection of the Guard ceremony. Each June, the Governor General reviews the Ceremonial Guard to ensure that Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Guardsmen and musicians are prepared to conduct public duties.

  • June 23, 2002, at 10 a.m.
