Museum Art School

The Humboldt arts Council in the Morris Graves Museum of Art is pleased to announce a new season of the Museum Art School! The focus of these classes is to develop a life-long appreciation of arts and culture by actively involving youth with the exhibitions at the Morris Graves Museum of Art through hands-on art instruction. Sessions for children ages 6 to 8 meet on Tuesdays from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. and begin September 25th. Sessions for children ages 9 to 12 meet on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. and begin September 26th. Registration per eight-week session is $90 or $85 for current HAC members. Register early as space is limited.

PUNISHMENT On Trial; Step 34: Reclaiming Human Rights

On Wednesday, October 24th, head to the Arcata Playhouse to learn about Proposition 34 and the unique opportunity that California voters have to end the death penalty. Featuring local dj’s, Scott Langley’s Death Row Photography Project, a film compilation, and a dynamic range of speakers. Find out what your vote can do to change the California prison system. 6 p.m., $5 suggested donation. Reclaim human rights, exercise civil rights, vote.

Halloween Festival

"Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and The Farm Midwives"

The movie captures a spirited group of women who taught themselves how to deliver babies on a 1970's commune, rescued modern midwifery from extinction, and changed the way a generation thought about childbirth.
