The Class A common shares have been traded on the New York Stock Exchange since September 25, 1997. From April 27, 1967 until January 13, 1969, the Company's Class A common stock traded over the counter. From January 14, 1969 until September 24, 1997, the shares were traded on the American Stock Exchange. The Class B shares are not publicly traded.

Can I buy Class A shares directly from the Company?
No. At the current time, you cannot buy shares directly from the Company. However, once you own at least one share registered in your name, you are eligible to enroll in the Company's Automatic Dividend Reinvestment Plan administered by First Chicago Trust Company of New York (see below) and you may purchase a limited number of additional shares without paying a commission.

Does The New York Times Company have a Dividend Reinvestment Program?
Yes. If you are a registered shareholder, you can enroll in the Company's Automatic Dividend Reinvestment Plan, which allows for the automatic reinvestment of the cash dividends the Company pays you in additional shares of The New York Times Company Class A Common Stock.
