The Oil and Gas Commission Act was tabled in the Legislature on June 3, 1998. Its purpose is to create the British Columbia Oil and Gas Commission, a Crown Corporation, to regulate the oil and gas activities and pipelines in British Columbia, to provide for effective and efficient processes for the review of applications related to oil and gas activities or pipelines, to ensure that applications that are approved are in the public interest having regard to environmental, economic and social effects, to encourage the participation of First Nations and aboriginal peoples in processes affecting them, participate in planning processes, and to undertake programs of education and communication in order to advance safe and efficient practices and the other purposes of the commission.

This web site is intended to provide background on the Commission and to update visitors on the activities conducted by the Commission beginning October 1998.
