When you register to become a member of orkut.com, we collect your name, email address and other personal identifying information that you submit to the site. In order to provide the best possible service and detect and correct site errors, we collect aggregate information about use of the site (such as which page are most often viewed) and we collect information about your computer, such as such as browser type, browser language, and IP address.

how we use your information

As described above, we display your profile information according to the preferences set in your account. Your name will be posted with your summary profile and available to other users of the site. The orkut.com  members can view each other's viewable profile information to learn about people in their network and reach out to members. When you send messages through the orkut.com  service, your name and email address will be identified in the message. We also use your name and email address to notify you of new members, messages or other information, such as an invitation to join a friend's network; a new testimonial or "fan" rating; crush notices, etc. In addition, we will send you messages when there are substantive changes to the service or our policies. All of these messages can be sent to your primary email address or to your orkut.com inbox by setting your preferences on the "my settings" page.

We may share both personally identifiable information about you and aggregate usage information that we collect with Google Inc. and agents of orkut in accordance to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. We will never rent, sell, or share your personal information with any third party for marketing purposes without your express permission.

You understand and agree that orkut.com may access, preserve, and disclose your personal information and the contents of your account if required to do so by law or in a good faith belief that such access preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order, or to protect the rights and property of orkut.com, its affiliates or the public.

We use the non-personally identifiable information and certain technical information about your computer in order to operate, maintain and manage orkut.com.

controlling your personal information

The orkut.com service provides a number of tools to limit who can view your profile and other personal information. When you create your profile, look for the "golden key" icon which allows you to limit viewing certain information to yourself, your friends, friends of friends or make the information available to everyone. Your profile information can be updated at any time by clicking on the "edit" button in your profile setting.

In addition, you can direct messages from orkut.com and other orkut.com messages to your primary email address or your orkut.com inbox by setting your preferences on the "my settings" page.

At any time, you can terminate your account which will remove your profile and other personal information from view. Contact admin@orkut.com to terminate your account or for any other questions about your personal information.

transfer of information

Personal information collected on this site may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which orkut.com or Google Inc. or agents maintain facilities, and by using this site, you consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country.

We reserve the right to transfer your personal information in the event of a transfer of ownership of orkut.com, such as acquisition by or merger with another company. In such an event, orkut.com will notify you before information about you is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

others' information

If you invite another person to join orkut.com, we will ask for that person's name and email address. We use this information to contact and, if necessary, remind that person that he or she has been invited to join orkut.com. All invitees are provided with the option not to receive further invitations from orkut.com. We may share other's email information with our affiliate, Google Inc, or agents which are required to abide by this Privacy Policy.
